Finding a job
Getting a job can be a very challenging process but with careful preparation it can be a lot easier. Follow the steps below to get jobhunting successfully.
Outcome
To understand how to find work that you are qualified and suited to
Let's start with why this is important:
- finding a job is a valuable part of adult life, it give you financial independance, a sense of purpose and can make you many new friends
- understanding the job you are suited to will make sure you are more likely to get a job and keep it
Information
Are you feeling job ready or want a job while you study?
Here is a list of some sites you may use to search for a job:
SEEK - Australia's largest employment site, featuring over 90,000 jobs, job emails and career tools.
INDEED - A large job search website
Youth Central - the Victorian Government’s website for young people aged 12 – 25, which contains comprehensive information about how to approach the job searching process.
It’s important to remember that finding work through job advertisements can be effective but limited. A lot of organisations choose to post new job advertisements solely on their website (i.e. Coles and Woolworths) so it’s worthwhile to regularly check their job boards as well. Good luck!
A PaTH internship is a good option if you are under 25, have been on Youth Allowance but have not started a career yet and need some skills to get your first job.
You can register with Transition to Work where each young person will have access to other services including accredited vocational training and education with Melbourne Training Options. Additional support for mental health, alcohol and other drugs and other complex issues are available.
You can access Transition to Work services in Glenroy, Craigieburn and Sunbury.
